What does “tied down” mean in English?
When something stops you from living freely, English speakers say it “ties you down.” No rope needed — it means a responsibility controls your life and you feel stuck. In this clip, a man who lives in a van says he does not want to be tied down to a piece of land. He means he does not want a house or property to limit where he can go and how he can live.
