What are “sabla” and “kumma” in Omani culture?
Omani Arabic has a word for a piece of architecture that doesn’t quite exist in other Arab homes: سبلة (sabla), a traditional men’s gathering room, often a separate building or wing where neighbours and family meet to drink coffee and talk. Other Gulf states call something similar a majlis, but the Omani sabla has its own physical form and social role.

Sabla sits alongside كمة (kumma), the embroidered cap that distinguishes Omani men’s dress from the white ghutra of other Gulf states.
