What is a pavlova dessert?
A pavlova is a sweet dessert. The outside is hard and the inside is soft. It is made from egg whites and sugar, and people put cream and fruit on top. It is very popular in Australia and New Zealand, often at parties and at Christmas. The dessert takes its name from a famous Russian dancer, Anna Pavlova. Both countries say the pavlova is theirs.
At an Australian potluck, friends bring food to share. One friend says, “I’m Liz, and I brought the pavlova.” If you go to a party in Australia, you may see a pavlova on the table. People sometimes call it a pav for short.
