What does “capture myopathy” mean in English?
When a deer gets stuck in a fence, the danger is not only the spikes. Extreme fear can kill it. This is called capture myopathy. “Myopathy” means a muscle disease. Under very strong stress, the body floods with stress chemicals and the muscles break down. The animal can die hours or even days later — no injury needed, just too much fear. That is why rescuers keep the deer calm and work fast.
In the clip, the rescuer says it directly: “Deer suffer from something called capture myopathy, which means that when they’re trapped and they’re super stressed out, they can die quickly.” That is why the team covers the deer’s head and moves very slowly — if it sees less, it panics less.
