💡 Bạn có biết?

What does “the last of its kind” mean in English?

the last of its kind
English idiom for something irreplaceable
when only one is left, and there will never be another

People say something is the last of its kind when nothing else like it is left in the world. This clip shows a real example: a tortoise who was the only member of his species still alive. Scientists tried hard to save the species through him, but it could not continue. When he died, his whole species disappeared with him — a sad, true picture of what “the last of its kind” really means.

You can use this phrase for more than animals. People say it about an old factory that made a special toy, a language almost no one speaks anymore, or even a grandparent’s recipe nobody wrote down. It always means: no copies, no replacement, nothing else quite like it.
