What does 'pelinho' mean in Brazilian Portuguese?
Pelinho is the cute-form Brazilian word for a tiny stray hair, a lint speck, a piece of dust on a screen, a bit of fuzz. The diminutive -inho turns pelo (hair) into pelinho (a wee hair) and is one of Brazilian Portuguese’s most-used moves: cafézinho (little coffee), amorzinho (sweetie), minutinho (quick minute).
In this clip, the narrator watches Chinese phone-shop workers apply a screen film with two pieces of tape (one to lift dust off the phone, one to peel off the película): « Acredito que seja pra não ter aqueles pelinhos » (I think it’s so you don’t get those pelinhos).
