What does “Zeigefinger” mean in German?
Zeigefinger is the German word for index finger — but unlike English, it tells you exactly what the finger does. It is built from zeigen (“to point” or “to show”) + Finger, making it literally “the pointing finger.” That compound logic is one of German’s most learner-friendly features: the word itself is its own definition.
