What does “voorspoelen” mean in Dutch?
Voorspoelen means to rinse dishes before loading them into the dishwasher — but a Dutch dishwasher tip says don’t do it. The word shows a handy pattern: voor- means “pre-” or “in advance,” and it attaches to countless Dutch verbs. Voorbereiden is to prepare (literally pre-make), voorkomen is to prevent (pre-occur), and voordoen is to demonstrate. Once you spot voor-, you can guess a whole class of verbs on sight.
