What does “korifi” mean in Greek?
Christina Flampouri, the first Greek woman to climb the Seven Summits, describes the moment it was complete: «όταν έφτασα στην κορυφή» (“when I reached the summit”). Κορυφή means “peak, summit, top,” whether a mountain, a list, or a career. She reached the highest κορυφή on every continent, finishing on Antarctica’s Vinson.
The word climbs into daily Greek too: “στην κορυφή” (“at the top”), a “συνάντηση κορυφής” (a summit meeting), “κορυφαίος” (“top-ranking, leading”). From the literal peak of Everest to the figurative top of your game, κορυφή marks the highest point. Fitting for a record-setting climber.
