Tamil family-drama dialogue and song lyrics lean heavily on the word உயிர் (uyir), which means “life,” “soul,” or “breath.” Calling someone உயிரே (uyire) is one of the strongest declarations Tamil offers: you are not just loved, you are my breath itself. The formula “நீங்க ரெண்டு பேரு தாண்டி எனக்கு உயிரே” (“apart from you two, you are my life”) puts loved ones equal to the speaker’s own breath.
