In Mexico, agua de Jamaica is a sweet red drink, not water from the island of Jamaica. Here Jamaica (say it “ha-MY-kah”) is the name of the hibiscus flower. People dry the flowers, boil them in water, add sugar, and drink it cold. It is one of the most common aguas frescas you see next to a Mexican meal, and it tastes a bit like cranberry.
