💡 Bạn có biết?

What does “en efectivo” mean in Spanish?

en efectivo
Spanish phrase for paying in cash
“in cash” — physical bills and coins, not a card

En efectivo means “in cash” — paying with actual bills and coins instead of a card. Dinero en efectivo is “cash money.” You will hear it at shops and restaurants: ¿Paga en efectivo o con tarjeta? (“Are you paying in cash or by card?”). The word efectivo on its own can also mean “effective,” but with money it always means cash.

Useful partners from the clip: sacar dinero (“take out / withdraw money”) and el cajero automático (“the ATM”). So you might say Voy a sacar dinero en efectivo del cajero (“I’m going to withdraw cash from the ATM”).
