What does “dale” mean in Argentine Spanish?
Dale is one of the most useful words in Argentine and Uruguayan Spanish. It started as the command dar + le (“give it to him/her”), but speakers reanalyzed it into an all-purpose agreement marker: “okay,” “sure,” “let’s do it.” With a push behind it, the same word becomes encouragement — “come on, go ahead.” Where someone in Spain says vale, a porteño says dale. It can stand alone as a full reply.
You hear both senses here: “No, dale” nudges the friend onward (come on, let’s open it), and “dale like al video” means go ahead and like it. The scene is unmistakably Rioplatense — note the voseo in “Vení acá,” “vos decís” and “pensás.” Younger speakers also stack it: “dale, de una.”
